Understand StoreMink SKUs and barcodes

Know the difference between StoreMink’s permanent stock identifier and the editable supplier code printed on packaging.

StoreMink SKU

StoreMink generates a system SKU for every sellable simple product or variant. It is permanent and read-only so stock history, imports, transfers, orders, and POS can continue to identify the same item.

Supplier barcode

The barcode is the code already printed on the product or supplied by the manufacturer. It is editable and can be an EAN, UPC, or another text code. A product with variants stores the barcode on each variant.

Where each value is used

  • Use the StoreMink SKU to match rows in an inventory CSV.
  • Use the barcode for hardware or camera scanning and catalogue search.
  • Use the product handle to match products in a product CSV.

Avoid duplicate barcodes

Give each sellable item the barcode from its own packaging. Duplicate or incorrect codes can make search or a register scan return the wrong item.
